Care Beyond the Clinic
At Summit Veterinary Care, community involvement isn’t something we do occasionally, it’s something we build into how we practice medicine. We don’t just work here, we live here. The families who trust us with their pets are our neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. That connection shapes how we show up.
Our mission has always extended beyond treating illness. We believe that when veterinary care is rooted in compassion, education, and service, it creates ripple effects that strengthen the entire community.
Every sponsorship, donation, mentorship opportunity, fundraiser, and volunteer effort reflects the same philosophy that guides our medical care: thoughtful, intentional action that makes a meaningful difference. Giving back is simply another way we live out our commitment to pets and the people who love them.
Aloka The Peace Dog
In February of 2026, our team had the profound honor of caring for Aloka the Peace Dog as the Walk for Peace paused for rest in Woodbridge & Arlington before completing the historic walk from Texas to Washington DC.
We are so deeply moved to have been part of his care during this chapter – making sure he’s comfortable, supported, and surrounded by compassion. Aloka, whose very name means “divine light,” is a living reflection of peace, resilience, and the simple yet powerful truth that care and kindness change lives.
To care for Aloka is to honor the idea that love can travel across borders, that gentleness still matters, and that animals can inspire humanity to be better. We are incredibly grateful, humbled, and honored to play even a small role in his incredible journey.
Peace walks on four legs – and we’re so proud to walk alongside it.

School & Sports Sponsorships
Supporting local schools and youth programs is one of the most meaningful ways we give back to our community. Whether we’re sponsoring the Battlefield High School football team or cheering on the Virginia Oaks Sea Devils Swim Team, we believe in showing up for the students and families who make our community strong.
Our commitment goes beyond sponsorships. We’ve welcomed students from Covenant Christian Academy into our hospital to explore careers in veterinary medicine — even watching a few “surgeries” to repair well-loved stuffed animals alongside Dr. Starke. And when Dr. Starke visits events like career day at Lowes Island Elementary School, it’s an opportunity to spark curiosity and encourage young minds to dream big.
We believe investing in students – in their confidence, their interests, and their futures – strengthens our entire community. When young people feel supported, whether on the field, in the pool, or in the classroom, everyone benefits.
Community Sock Drive Initiative
Last year, we hosted our first annual sock drive — and our community showed up in an incredible way. Together, we collected more than 750 pairs of socks for SERVE Family Shelter, helping provide one of the most needed (and often most overlooked) essentials for families experiencing housing insecurity.
We’re proud to partner with organizations like SERVE that work tirelessly to support local families, and we’re grateful to our clients and neighbors who helped turn a small idea into a meaningful impact.
Partnering for Pets in Need
At Summit Vet Care, caring goes beyond the walls of our clinic. Throughout the year, we proudly raise funds for our local animal shelter at community events like Haymarket Day, as well as at special events we host right here at the clinic, including our Grand Opening event, Santa Paws event, and Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Gathering event.
These gatherings bring together families, pets, and neighbors for fun, connection, and a shared purpose — supporting animals in need within our community. Every dollar raised helps provide shelter, medical care, and second chances for pets waiting to find their forever homes.
We’re honored to partner with our community to make a meaningful difference, because caring for animals isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are.
Guiding the Next Generation of Veterinary Professionals
We believe caring for the future of veterinary medicine is just as important as caring for today’s patients. At Summit Vet Care, we proudly mentor both veterinary and veterinary technician students, welcoming them into our clinic for hands-on learning and real-world experience. From technician students completing their preceptorships to veterinary students expanding their clinical skills, we love creating an environment where curiosity is encouraged and knowledge is shared.
Dr. Starke also serves on the alumni board at Virginia Tech and participates in the university’s mentorship program, supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals beyond our clinic walls. By investing in students today, we’re helping strengthen the future of compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for years to come.
