At Summit Veterinary Care, we’re proud to serve the Bristow, VA community as a full‑service veterinary and urgent‑care facility. In just two years, we’ve earned more than 200 five‑star reviews – a testament to the trust our clients place in us. We believe in delivering care that’s compassionate, fear‑free, and convenient. We offer amenities that make visits less stressful for you and your pet. Because we know your dogs are part of your family, we’re always on the lookout for new, effective solutions that make life easier for pets and pet parents alike.

That’s why we’re particularly excited to offer Bravecto Quantum — a once‑a-year injectable flea and tick treatment that could simplify parasite protection for many of our clients.

What is Bravecto Quantum?

Bravecto Quantum is a prescription, extended‑release injectable suspension for dogs (and puppies 6 months of age or older). Rather than relying on monthly chews or topical applications, this solution provides continuous protection from fleas and ticks for up to 12 months.

That means one simple clinic visit for the year — no reminders, no missed doses, no stress over scheduling.

How It Works

The active ingredient in Bravecto Quantum is fluralaner, which belongs to a class of compounds known as isoxazolines. Once injected subcutaneously by a veterinarian, the fluralaner is gradually released into the bloodstream over time. When fleas or ticks bite your dog, they ingest the medication — which disrupts their nervous system and kills them before they can reproduce or transmit disease.

For most fleas and common ticks (like the black‑legged tick, American dog tick, and brown dog tick), protection lasts the full 12 months. For the lone star tick, the approved protection duration is up to 8 months.

Lab and field studies have shown that Bravecto Quantum was nearly 100% effective against fleas throughout the 12‑month period when administered annually.

Why Many Pet Parents and Dogs Benefit

  • Year‑long protection = fewer dosing hassles. One injection covers most of the year — especially good for busy households, multi-dog homes, or folks who don’t want to worry about monthly reminders.
  • Consistent coverage = better parasite prevention. Fleas and ticks don’t follow a “seasonal schedule.” Even a few days of warm weather can expose pets to risk. With a year-long injectable, you don’t have to guess whether your pet’s protected.
  • No messy topicals or chews. Since the delivery method is a simple injection, there’s no need to remember pills or handle topical treatments.
  • Trusted active ingredient. Fluralaner has been used for years in other flea/tick products, and the extended‑release injectable formulation is backed by rigorous safety testing.

Safety & What to Know

  • Bravecto Quantum is approved for dogs (and puppies) 6 months of age or older.
  • As with any medication, there are potential side effects. Because fluralaner belongs to the isoxazoline class, rare neurologic reactions (like tremors or seizures) have been reported in dogs — even those without a prior history of neurologic issues.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (though uncommon) — including injection-site reactions — have also been reported; on the bright side, many dogs tolerate it well with no issues.
  • Because every dog’s lifestyle, exposure risk, and health history is unique, it’s important to talk with us before choosing Bravecto Quantum — especially if your dog is very young, has a history of neurologic issues, or if you plan to breed them.

Is Bravecto Quantum Right for Your Dog?

At Summit Veterinary Care, we believe in personalized pet care. While Bravecto Quantum offers powerful convenience and protection — it isn’t the automatic “right fit” for every dog. We encourage pet parents to schedule a consultation with us so we can consider factors like your dog’s age, weight, health history, and likely exposure risk to fleas and ticks.

If we decide together that your dog is a good candidate, one annual injection could mean a full year of worry‑free protection — and more time enjoying walks, playtime, and tail wags instead of monthly reminders.
