Gardening is a favorite summer activity, but did you know some of the most popular plants and mulches can be harmful—or even deadly—to pets?

Toxic Plants to Watch Out For:

  • Lily (especially toxic to cats)
  • Oleander
  • Sago Palm
  • Azalea
  • Foxglove
  • Hydrangea

Other Yard Hazards:

  • Cocoa Mulch: Contains theobromine, toxic to dogs.
  • Slug Bait & Fertilizers: Often contain chemicals dangerous to pets.
  • Compost: Can develop harmful bacteria and molds.

Pet-Friendly Alternatives:

  • Marigolds, snapdragons, and sunflowers are often safe.
  • Use cedar or pine mulch instead of cocoa mulch.
  • Fence off garden beds to keep curious noses out.
