Surgical Estimates & Consultations
An examination is required before providing a surgery estimate. This allows us to tailor recommendations specifically to your pet.
When planning surgery, we take into consideration:
- Procedure type
- Age
- Medical conditions or ailments
- Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) level
- Elective vs. medically necessary procedures
At Summit Veterinary Care, we believe your pet deserves nothing less than the highest standard of care. It’s important to us that you understand why the cost of surgeries, dentistry, and other procedures may be higher here compared to low-cost spay/neuter clinics or other veterinary practices. While the cost might be higher, it reflects our commitment to providing your pet with the best possible care, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being at every step of their procedure. Pre-Surgical Requirements
To ensure the safest experience possible, pets must meet the following requirements at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, unless otherwise approved by a veterinarian.
Required:
- Active Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (exam within 6 months)
- Surgery deposit
- Pre-surgical examination
- Rabies vaccine
- DAPP (dogs) or FVRCP (cats)
- Bordetella vaccine
- Heartworm test (pets over 6 months) or FeLV/FIV test (cats)
- Fecal test
Bloodwork Requirements
- Under 2 years old & healthy: May be done same day (ideally prior)
- Over 2 years old or with illness: Must be completed within 30 days prior
While same-day testing may be available, we generally recommend completing bloodwork in advance. Exceptions may be made for pets with higher stress (FAS) or special medical considerations.
Pre-surgical lab work is included in the surgical bundle for scheduled procedures.
Special Considerations
Our veterinarians may adjust requirements based on your pet’s individual needs, including:
- Vaccine waivers in time-sensitive or medically complex cases
- Same-day exams or diagnostics
- Adjustments for pets with high anxiety or stress
